Originally developed as a breed by Lord Tweedmouth in Scotland in the 19th century, they are a cross of a yellow wavy retriever and a tweed water spaniel - making them excellent sport dogs, retrievers (duh) and companions.
And there is this beautiful coat! Their entitlements, their responsibilities, golden fur, relatives in the dog realm - but they also contain some equals, so that it should be done, chic and fabulous.
To help you with this, here are some golden grooming tips that are for this breed
Basic care tips
If you want to make your golden retriever look cute, this is the fur you need to look after. They are LARGE scales in that they have double coats, so their fur requires serious attention.
- To keep your dandruff under control, it's important to brush them frequently. Your couch (and puppy) will thank you. Use a bristle brush and primer rake for best results.
- This is especially important when they "blow their coats" or when the weather gets warmer and they start shedding their thick undercoat.
- You can also bathe your golden retriever if it stinks. As long as you're using good quality shampoo, it shouldn't be too harmful to your hair.
- NEVER shave your gold. Your hair is the way it is for a reason - even in warm weather, it needs its double coat to keep it cool and protect it from the sun, insects, and other problems.
- This breed is prone to developing ear infections. It is therefore important that their ears are checked and cleaned regularly. Also, some owners use special ear cleaning solutions to wash them weekly to help prevent infection.
- Try trimming the hair around the feet and pads so it doesn't turn into slippers. Oh, and keeping those nails cut is a wonderful idea too
Top Golden Retriever Hairstyles
1. Easy trimming
This cut seems to be the style of choice for most owners (and snow groomers) as it stays true to your Golden Retriever's natural hair. There isn't actually much "cutting" associated with this haircut. In fact, for simple trimming to be successful, all your dog needs is light trimming, walking, and perhaps a little thinning around the neck and chest.
Your golden's hair is the icing on the cake with this cut - and as long as you can brush it out regularly to keep it healthy, this is a wonderful option.
2. Display section
Much like the Simple Trim, this cut is really about not cutting a lot at all. The bigger the better when it comes to that beautiful, golden coat - as long as the edges and feathers are clean and tidy and the paws, ears, and hygiene areas are trimmed accordingly.

3. The teddy cut
While shaving your golden retriever's hair is not a good idea, some owners are desperate for ways to keep their pups hair shorter in hot, humid weather. For this reason, some snow groomers have adopted the "teddy cut" in order to keep the hood shorter without foregoing the double jacket.
In this cut, the body is shortened to a shorter length and the legs are sheared in the natural shape of the dog's coat. The tail is trimmed in the same way as the feet, which are short and curved (like a cat's paw).
However you choose to groom your Golden Retriever, it will look fluffy, amazing, and cozy - and you'll be happy once you find the right style that fits your family (and your budget and leisure time).
Remember to always pay attention to the clues your dog is giving you and if something is causing stress it may be time to find a different approach / hairstyle / groomer / etc. We hope these hairstyle ideas have been useful in spicing up your pup's hood. Have fun cutting out!
